Experiencing a rough patch? Mix equal parts olive oil and honey to create a thick lotion. Rub on dry skin and let sit for 10-20 minutes before rinsing the area for smooth (and staying) results.


This use of honey for skin brings a little sweetness to your lips. Combine 1 teaspoon of honey with 1/2 cup of natural beeswax (grated), 10 drops of lemon essential oil, 2 drops of vitamin E oil and 1/4 cup of coconut oil. Once blended into an even (and creamy) concoction, separate mixture into small containers with lids (should make about 12 mini batches).


Combine 2 teaspoons of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of water in a microwave-safe container, then heat in the microwave or above the stove until the mixture turns brown (approximately 30 seconds). Let cool, thinning the mixture with more water if it appears too thick. Use a small spatula to thinly apply wax to skin, then apply a muslin cloth strip, pressing and smoothing in the direction of hair before peeling back in a swift motion.


Add a teaspoon of honey to regular shampoo to smooth damaged tresses, or combine with a teaspoon of olive oil for deeper conditioning. Apply to hair and let soak for 15 minutes (add 10 minutes for more damaged strands) before shampooing as usual.


Combine 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 cup hot water and let solution dissolve for about 10 minutes. Add 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil, then pour in bath water.


Reserve a little dab of honey for skin and apply to blemishes, then keep covered with a Band-Aid for 30 minutes. (Honey also works as an antiseptic for burns and abrasions.)


Combine 2 teaspoons of milk with 2 tablespoons of honey. Smooth solution over face and let it sit for 10 minutes before washing off.


Melt 1.5 ounces of beeswax and 3 ounces of apricot kernel oil in the microwave. Stir in 1 tablespoon of honey and, once cooled, divide into small tins for quick cuticle repair on the go.


Stir a couple pinches of ground nuts into a tablespoon of honey (adding a squirt of lemon juice). While the ground nuts exfoliate and the lemon juice brightens, the honey will moisturize for a smooth surface.


Using honey for skin doesn’t just involve softening. Proving one of the easiest (and better smelling) wart removers, apply honey to problem area twice a day until you see results.


Add a tablespoon of honey to a liter of water and, after shampooing, rinse your hair with this concoction to tame fly-aways. THROAT SOOTHER: Mix 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice in 1 cup of water. Heat and stir.

To enhance your hair color in an all-natural way, head to the grocery store. Blondes can concoct a brightening rinse using the juice of a lemon combined with two cups of chamomile tea. Apply and let it sit for five minutes. Brunettes can darken their locks with a coffee-based version. Just brew up a pot and, after it cools, massage it into hair and let sit for 15 minutes or so before rinsing. What to wear

Healthy people usually sweat more when they’re exercising or they get hot, so the first thing you can do is dress wisely. Wear cotton underwear and clothes and avoid synthetic clothing as natural fibres provide better ventilation. This means skin can breathe better under clothes, minimising the production and optimising the evaporation of sweat.

The body works best when its temperature is about 37 degrees Celsius. If it gets hotter than that, the brain sends a message to sweat glands to increase production. When the sweat hits the air it evaporates and cools the skin, lowering the body’s temperature. This means natural fibres like cotton, keep you cool when you most need it.

Medical experts say sweat does not smell at all, even if it contains tiny amounts of other chemicals, like ammonia and urea. They insist it’s the bacteria that live on the skin and feed off sweat which produce the odor.

“Inevitably there will always be innocuous bacteria on [the] skin that will be able to break down sweat so that the potentially smelly… compounds within it will release their distinctive smells ,” said Dr. Thomas Stuttaford, medical expert for British newspaper The Times.

These bacteria multiply quickly when they mix with the sweat so it could help to wash with an antibacterial soap. After bath, use a light fragrance to make you feel even fresher before going out to the warm outdoors.

What to eat and drink

When it comes to what you eat or drink, cut down on your caffeine intake as it stimulates the sweat glands. Instead drink lots of water, keeping the body cool from the inside out.

What to use

If you sweat heavily, use a deodorant or antiperspirant with aluminium chlorohydrate or zirconium to avoid unsightly wet patches. The heavy metals form a shield that blocks the pores from excreting sweat.

However, naturalists and some medical experts have criticised conventional deodorants and antiperspirants, saying the heavy metals suppress a wholly natural and necessary cleansing process – sweating. If you’re with the naturalists, sage is a useful herb to combat the smell of sweat.

And lastly, try rubbing tea tree oil under your arms. It is a potent antibacterial and odour neutraliser.

If I had to pick a single factor that I thought was most important in a successful exercise or weight loss program, it would be to exercise first thing in the morning – every morning! Some mornings, you may just be able to fit in a 10 minute walk, but it’s important to try to do something every morning.

1. Over 90% of people who exercise ‘consistently’, exercise in the morning. If you want to exercise consistently, odds are in your favor if you exercise first thing in the morning.

2. When you exercise early in the morning, it “jump starts” your metabolism and keeps it elevated for hours, sometimes up to 24 hours! That means you’re burning more calories all day long just because you exercised in the morning!

3. When you exercise in the morning you’ll be *energized* for the day! Personally, I feel dramatically different on days when I have and haven’t exercised in the morning.

4. Many people find that morning exercise “regulates” their appetite for the day – that they aren’t as hungry and that they make better food choices. Several people have told me that it puts them in a “healthy mindset.”

5. If you exercise at about the same time every morning, and ideally wake-up at about the same time on a regular basis, your body’s endocrine system and circadian rhythms adjust to that. Physiologically, some wonderful things begin to happen; A couple of hours *before* you awaken, your body begins to prepare for waking and exercise because it “knows” it’s about to happen. Why? Because it “knows” you do the same thing just about everyday. You benefit from that in several ways..

a) It’s MUCH easier to wake-up. When you wake-up at different times everyday, it confuses your body and thus it’s never really “prepared” to awaken.

b) Your metabolism and all the hormones involved in activity and exercise begin to elevate while you’re sleeping. Thus, you feel more alert, energized, and ready to exercise when you do wake-up.

c) Hormones prepare your body for exercise by regulating blood pressure, heart rate, blood flow to muscles, etc.

6. For many people, that appointed time every morning becomes something they look forward to. It’s time they’ve set aside to do something good for themselves – to take care of their body, mind, and soul. Many find that it’s a great time to think clearly, pray, plan their day, or just relax mentally.

7. Research has demonstrated that exercise increases mental acuity. On average it lasts four to ten hours after exercise! No sense in wasting that brain power while you’re sleeping.

8. Exercise first thing in the morning is really the only way to assure that something else won’t crowd exercise out of your schedule. When your days get hectic, exercise usually takes a back seat!

9. If finding time to exercise is difficult, anyone can get up 30 to 60 minutes earlier to exercise (if it’s a priority in your life). If necessary, you can go to sleep a little earlier. Also, research has demonstrated that people who exercise on a regular basis have a higher quality of sleep and thus require less sleep!

Also, virgin coconut oil is considered safe for all skin types and almost never causes allergies. But avoid using oils on your face, particularly if you suffer from acne.

Turns out, adding a little tea to your beauty routine can give your skin and hair a boost, too. If you choose to add a scone or two to the mix, well, we certainly won’t judge.

Facial spritzer: No need to shell out for expensive water mists when you need a skin refresher. Just steep green tea leaves in room temp water for a couple hours, strain, grab a spray bottle and fill it up with your concoction. Spritz away whenever you could use a little antioxidant-infused pick-me-up.

Tooth treatmentA 2009 study conducted at Kyushu University in Japan and published in the Journal of Periodontology found that people who sip green tea regularly have healthier gums and teeth than those who don’t. In addition to drinking down a daily cup, mix tea leaves and baking soda into a paste when you’re running low on Crest and brush away. Or, brew a tea bag in one cup of water, let it cool and swish it around as a DIY mouthwash.

Nail mender: A chip doesn’t have to mean disaster. Cut out a small piece of your paper tea bag and, using nail glue, adhere it to the broken area. Facial cleaner: Add a couple tablespoons of loose green tea to your regular creamy cleanser, stir it up and slather it on. Let it sit for five minutes to soften dead skin cells and then gently rub and rinse to buff them away.

Tip #1: Have a teaspoon of cinnamon powder everyday on an empty stomach. You can add honey or drink it with warm water. Cinnamon powder can be made and stored for a few months, but make sure you store it in an airtight container, as the essential oils present in cinnamon are highly volatile. 

Tip #2: Drink cinnamon tea with a teaspoon of honey every day, half an hour before breakfast. To make cinnamon tea, steep some unflavoured green tea and add a pinch of freshly ground cinnamon powder to it. Strain the tea and drink it while hot. You can add a spoon of honey for added flavour.  

Alternatively you could add cinnamon powder to your meal by sprinkling it on your salad, coffee or other foods.
